EPA’s Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ) modeling system is an open-source, regional air quality model used to simulate how pollutants such as ozone, PM2.5, and air toxics form and move in the atmosphere. It combines detailed atmospheric chemistry, emissions, and meteorology to estimate pollutant concentrations and deposition over time and space. The CMAQ website provides the model code, documentation, tutorials, input datasets, and example applications, supporting researchers and agencies in evaluating air quality policies, health and ecosystem impacts, and interactions between air quality and climate.
EPA’s greenhouse gas data portal at ghgdata.epa.gov (the FLIGHT tool) is an interactive website that lets users explore facility-level greenhouse gas emissions reported under EPA’s Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program. It provides maps, tables, and charts showing emissions by facility, industry sector, gas, location, and year, and allows filtering by state or county, source category, emission thresholds, and gas type. Users—such as policymakers, researchers, advocates, and companies—can quickly identify major emitters, compare facilities, examine trends over time, and download customized datasets for further analysis.
The toxic flooding vulnerability map is an interactive tool that ranks and visualizes how vulnerable petrochemical facilities and nearby communities in the Galveston Bay region are to toxic flooding. Built from more than 100 indicators across flood risk, chemical transport, facility hazards, ecosystem conditions, baseline health, and social and economic factors, it produces separate vulnerability scores for facilities and for community grid cells. Users—such as planners, engineers, policymakers, and Gulf Coast residents—can explore overall vulnerability, drill down to see which specific indicators drive risk in each location, identify high?priority facilities and neighborhoods, and use downloadable profiles and map layers to help target nature?based solutions that reduce both flooding and chemical exposure.
NOAA’s HYSPLIT (Hybrid Single-Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory) website provides access to a powerful atmospheric transport and dispersion model used to simulate how airborne pollutants, smoke, dust, volcanic ash, and other particles move and spread in the atmosphere. The site offers model documentation, tutorial materials, downloadable desktop software, and online web-based tools that let users calculate air parcel trajectories, dispersion, and deposition patterns based on meteorological data. It is widely used for air quality studies, emergency response, and research on long-range transport of contaminants.

The Control Strategy Tool (CoST), developed in 2008, is part of EPA's Emissions Modeling Framework (EMF). CoST is used to estimate emissions reductions and engineering costs associated with control strategies applied to point and area sources of air pollutant emissions to support the analyses of air pollution policies and regulations.
EPA's MOtor Vehicle Emission Simulator (MOVES) is a state-of-the-science emission modeling system that estimates emissions for mobile sources at the national, county, and project level for criteria air pollutants, greenhouse gases, and air toxics, available under EPA's Open Source Software policy.
SMOKE is primarily an emissions processing system designed to create gridded, speciated, hourly emissions for input into a variety of air quality models such as CMAQ, REMSAD, CAMX and UAM. SMOKE supports area, biogenic, mobile (both onroad and nonroad), and point source emissions processing for criteria, particulate, and toxic pollutants. For biogenic emissions modeling, SMOKE uses the Biogenic Emission Inventory System. SMOKE is also integrated with the on-road emissions model MOVES.
