How do I use this resource?
This resource provides downloadable files of column observations for NO2, ozone, formaldehyde, and trace gases. Use of this resource requires understanding of satellite data. Downloadable data is in Network Common Data Form (netCDF), a binary file format. You can view the data using NASA Panoply, GIS software, and with Python or R. When you choose a “collection” of data to download it will bring up a set of individual “granule” files. You can download an individual hourly file, or an entire collection of the granules.
Pro tips
When you bring up the resource, it will offer you a tour of Earthdata Search. Take the tour and then come back to the resource. It will help. The term “granules” refers to the smallest unit of data from a satellite instrument, which together make up a larger data collection.

Nitrogen dioxide Level 3 (PROVISIONAL) files provide trace gas information on a regular grid covering the TEMPO field of regard for nominal TEMPO observations. Level 3 files are derived by combining information from all Level 2 files constituting a TEMPO East-West scan cycle. The files are provided in netCDF4 format, and contain information on tropospheric and stratospheric nitrogen dioxide vertical columns, ancillary data used in air mass factor and stratospheric/tropospheric separation calculations, and retrieval quality flags.
Total ozone Level 3 files provide ozone information on a regular grid covering the TEMPO field of regard for nominal TEMPO observations. Level 3 files are derived by combining information from all Level 2 files constituting a TEMPO East-West scan cycle. The files are provided in netCDF4 format, and contain information on total column ozone and some auxiliary derived and ancillary input parameters including effective cloud fraction, effective cloud pressure, radiative cloud fraction, SO2 index, and terrain pressure
