Michigan Environmental Justice Mapping and Screening Tool

This mapping tool allows you to overlay information on air quality, environmental hazards, sources, demographic and vulnerability, and other variables to better understand areas in Michigan that have higher risks or vulnerabilities to environmental contaminants. There are two sets of controls that govern map functions. The set at the top left covers the legend for the map, location “pins”/bookmarks for zooming in, a measurement tool, a buffering tool, and what is described as a side by side comparison tool (note that you may have to have a ArcGIS user profile to use this feature). The set at the top right include the key layer list that lets you select which data to include on your map (first button on the left). Once a layer is selected, you can click on any location to view specific information about environmental and population characteristics. The second to left button allows you to add additional context layers such as nonattainment area boundaries. The remaining buttons include a glossary, basemaps, filtering, printing, and sharing.
